The mission of Bell Technologies, LLC is to become a primary source to industry for flow, density, mass, and viscosity measurement products. Product development originated with the TORUSWEDGE™ primary flow element and continues with future metrology products.
Currently, oil & gas clients lose up to +/- 7% of total available production volume revenues due to inaccuracies in current measurement technologies. These current technologies include devices such as V-cones, the wedge and orifice plate meters – a technology more than 100 years old with an installed base of more than six million units.
Wide use has proven that orifice plate meters, while good in some
instances, are inaccurate, costly and have an extremely very short lifespan. They can’t measure all of the flow through the pipeline and require monthly inspections as well as many replacement parts. There are, quite literally, dozens of orifice meter competitors ranging from small “mom-and-pop shops” to large, corporate companies – all supplying the same inaccurate meters and required replacement parts. Newer technologies exist, but are not usually even considered due to much higher costs.
With it’s commercial goal to focus on upstream oil & gas applications and related process sectors where orifice plate meters are widely used and fall short of meeting client demands for performance and accuracy, Bell Technologies, LLC has created the solution to these flow measurement issues – the TORUSWEDGE primary flow element.
Due to its improved accuracy over traditional meters, this device ensures more accurate measurement of the customers’ production revenues and improves customer cash flow by at least 3%. It has been proven to meet the demands of oil & gas customers for accurate, durable and cost-effective measurement across a wide range of applications. Unlike the orifice plate, it doesn’t wear out, bow, bend, or require replacement parts – therefore, lowering purchasing and maintenance costs by approximately 50%.
The Bell Technologies’ measurement device can correct the inherent inaccuracies and inefficiencies of existing meters and improve measurement accuracy over long periods of time. Its unique design allows for a greater accuracy and efficiency of measurement of almost anything that flows through the pipe -- including crude oil, natural gas, wet natural gas with or without particles, water and other related fluids from the wellhead to the refinery -- something the traditional measurement device meters cannot do.
Once the device is installed, the client’s total cost of ownership is reduced due to the enhanced durability. Energy consumption is also reduced by 35% due the improved efficiency of the device. It can be installed into existing meter runs without disturbing piping and the Company’s existing algorithm can be downloaded to allow customers to utilize all of their existing instrumentation and computer systems.
The Bell Technologies’ management team has more than 90 years experience in the oil, gas and measurement industries – especially in the areas of new and current product developing new products with patentable IP that excel at meeting market needs, commercializing new products & business models and developing product supply agreements with strategic customers.
Bell Technologies, LLC was incorporated in 2010 with two principals, each with 50% ownership. The corporate facility is located in Houston, Texas, with a satellite office in San Antonio.
Owner Dave Bell’s forty-five year career in the oil and gas industry began in 1967 at Marathon Pipeline Company. His career in flow measurement advanced from hands-on pipeline work to sales and marketing, control systems, and finally to corporate management. Employment experience at Explorer Pipeline, M & J Valve Company, Daniel Industries, Fisher Controls, PGI, Anderson Greenwood, gave Mr. Bell a broad knowledge base in flow measurement. This provided a unique insight into unresolved flow measurement problems and provided an intellectual springboard for product development at Bell Technologies.
Bell’s patented device has been successfully tested by CEESI (Colorado Experiment Engineering Station Inc.), an industry recognized third party laboratory, and is qualified under various industry standards (API 22.2 and AGA 3) for both liquid and gas applications. Patents were received in 2008 and 2010 and the Company is now focused on expanding into new product offerings.
The company owns 11 patents in flow measurement.
Our Markets and Applications:
Primary fluid measurement markets include drilling mud, hydraulic fracturing and severe service industries for fluids with entrained solids. Later versions of the product line will focus in industries such as chemical refineries, natural gas, refined products, pipelines, power plants, and paper mills. Higher line pressures, product longevity, adverse process conditions, and tighter cost controls make adoption of Bell’s product suite extremely attractive. For example, current technologies do not provide long term solutions to drilling mud measurement.
Furthermore, estimates indicate that 30 - 40% of all gas measurement is impacted by these adverse conditions. The target is to capture at least 25% of this market – estimated at 3-4 million installations ranging in size from 2”- 66” diameter. For many applications wherein emerging flow technologies, Bell offers substantial advantages. Typically, Bell devices are less expensive than competitive meters. The total ROI for the end user can be more than 50%. Revenue generated from all market segments can exceed $1 billion.
